Pelstergasthuis

Enjoy the peace and quiet in this largest and oldest guest house in Groningen. Founded in the 12th century to care for the poor, sick and pilgrims.

The guesthouse contains three courtyards and a chapel. The chapel is the oldest part of the guesthouse. Inside is a beautiful organ and the oldest bell in Groningen. The Order of the Holy Spirit Masters, a medieval order, founded this Pelstergasthuis in the 12th century. Their aim was to take care of the poor, sick and pilgrims. The black oval shield with a double white cross, their emblem, can be seen in several places.
